Hewa
has a small primary school for some decades. This is in a good
condition
since the French organisation Népal et vous reconstructed it
in 2001/2.
But there are no other educational institutions in the
village. So in
late 2015, the German NGO Verein Nepal-Inzlingen together with Rheinland-
Lorraine-Nepal
decided to support the construction of a kindergarten in Hewa.
Such
facilities are still relatively rare in Nepal's rural areas.
Thus, the
kindergarten of Hewa may also have a role model function. It is normal for Nepal that young men go abroad as part of labour migration. In Sherpa villages like Hewa, they are also weeks away because of their involvement in mountaineering or trekking business. During this time, the women not only have to take care of children and household but they also have to do all the agricultural work. A kindergarten would mean some relief for these women. Besides, the children will get a better starting opportunity for their educational process. The cornerstone ceremony already took place in Oktober 2016 when Klaus and Lukas Bender of Verein Nepal-Inzlingen visited the village. But the place had to be moved to the opposite side of the community centre. Besides, HSCC could start with the construction of the kindergarten only after most of the fully damaged houses in the valley had been reconstructed. So another cornerstone ceremony took place in March 2019 The construction went on very fast. The kindergarten will be inaugurated in November 2019. The construction of the kindergarten is also supported by Fürsorge- and Bildungsstiftung, Krefeld, Germany. This foundation has also been sponsoring the reconstruction of the earthquake damaged houses in the village.
