On initiative of Chongba Sherpa, an Italian organisation has built a small hydropower station near Deku, the small village on the opposite side of the Hewa Khola valley. This plant produces enough electricity for several villages on both sides of the Hewa Khola. There is now light in all the houses of this valley and electricity is also sufficiant for the use of small electronic devices like mobile phones, transistor radios, etc. For special reasons, the supply can even be raised for some time. For example, this happend when the village centre in Hewa was built or when the houses that had been damaged by the earthquakes were reconstructed. So, the workers could even use an electric cement mixer what made their work  a lot easier. There is no daily load shedding as had been normal in the Kathmandu valley for many years. There may only be small breaks for maintenance reasons or if some damages have to be repaired.
